A roofer noticed new customers saying ChatGPT recommended him, and a commenter says those leads close at nearly double

Not the biggest or cheapest, with a dated website. The AI seemed to pull from reviews, the BBB and local mentions.

What they did

A roofer posted that over a few months, a handful of new customers said they found him by asking ChatGPT or Gemini "who's a good roofer in [town]." He couldn't tell why the AI picked him: "We're not the cheapest, we're not the biggest, and our website is honestly kind of dated." His guess was Google reviews, his BBB listing, local news mentions and some Reddit posts.

How it went

A commenter said they noticed the same about six months earlier, and the close rate on those leads was "nearly double" what they get from Google Ads. They said the signals are the same as local SEO: steady reviews, mentions on other sites, the BBB. Another roofer in Calgary reported customers saying ChatGPT named them next to two bigger companies.

Worth knowing

Ask every new customer how they found you, and add 'ChatGPT / AI' as an option. Keep your name, phone and services identical everywhere online.
